Hello World: Promote Your Professional Practice with Flip Books

This article presents a new and affordable marketing technology, the digital flip book.

     
Flip books have been around a long time (http://www.flipbook.info/history.php and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip_book) but new software has imported the concept onto the Internet, combining the PDF (portable document format) with a website, where the book acquires movement. Unlike a standalone website, the book can act as a brochure to be sent via email or downloaded from a website, viewed on a smart phone, or can be printed and distributed as we used to do, before the Internet became the premier method of publicizing your professional practice.

The electronic flip book is an affordable way to get a Web presence. You can use a four or more page brochure about your professional practice as the basis for an eventual website to which you can later add more pages. It is a low-cost alternative to creating a regular website.


Flip books combine the PDF with a website, where the book acquires movement.
Let's examine one I created for my co-publisher, Marjory Harris. She already has an extensive website but wanted a brochure that could be emailed, downloaded, or inserted into the Marketplace on WCWebzine.com where it would flip. I created it using material from her website. For those without websites, I have a form to fill in important data like office location, philosophy of your practice, relevant background, and the like. It does not take long to gather the information.

Then the magic happens with a tailor-made graphic reflective of my client and their profession. In Marjory's case, I wanted to capture the essence of her practice philosophy, the optimism of recovery and return to the world after a devastating injury. Inside I used a photo and background I had done for her website, choosing colors known in the advertising world to best convey the intended message.

I broke up the space so the information was manageable for the reader -- a lot needed to be conveyed in a few pages, but in a way that the reader could decide what looked relevant to read. On the back of the brochure are my client's professional credentials. Many prospective clients want to know more about who they might be retaining.

I added live email links on the landing page as well, so a prospective client can quickly reach my client. If they are looking online or on a phone, they can use email, which my client prefers for inquiries. This brochure also has links to pages on her website and has some material designed to interest potential clients in going to that site. If she wanted to distribute this in paper form, in conjunction with a presentation or just to keep in her office, she could order a printed brochure at a very reasonable cost.

If you order one to be shown on WCWebzine.com's Marketplace, it will have its own URL and act as a mini-website for your practice. Our site has incorporated files which get our pages onto Google and other search engines quickly, so you should see your name high in Google rankings soon after publication, unless it is a common name or you already have many listings.

You might want to consider other uses, specialized for certain occasions such as a workshop or presentation you are giving on a particular subject, or some event that your firm or medical practice is putting on. With flip books, you can really tailor your message to the needs -- and attention span -- of your potential clients or patients.

So here's how it works: you provide me with links to your website so I can extract the most valuable material, or you just do that yourself and send it to me in an e-mail. If you want your picture in the flip book, you just send a jpeg. We strongly recommend a professional photographer. Also if the office/location has interest, please include those images. We review and retouch photos.

Design and final production for the Flipbooks is $800. for a 4 page brochure (includes cover). If more pages are needed please call for a quote. Remember, these can also be printed for events or mailings.
