State Disability Insurance "is a partial wage-replacement insurance plan for California workers. The SDI programs are state-mandated, and funded through employee payroll deductions. SDI provides affordable, short-term benefits to eligible workers. Workers covered by SDI are covered by two programs: Disability Insurance (DI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL)."

An employee disabled at work can get SDI if otherwise eligible. See UI §2775.

Labor Code Employment Development Department can claim repayment of SDI by filing a lien in the workers' compensation case, when SDI overlaps temporary disability payments or periods when defendant was obligated to pay permanent disability. LC §4903
